Most of us thought The Lassie
Foundation had released it's last album with
El Dorado. So when I heard a few months back that
they had decided to head into the studio and record
another album, I about lost it. For those of you are
unaware of the Lassie Foundation, you should be
ashamed of yourselves. They are by far one of the best
pop/shoegaze bands you will ever lay your ears on.
Listening to Face Your Fun, I find it hard to
believe the band has once again topped themselves. TLF
always seems to throw together a great collection of
dreamy tunes that leave you wanting more. This album is
so sweet and sugary it stays with you long after the
music has stopped. What I love most about this album is
that I seem to enjoy it more and more with each listen.
Quite a few of the cuts are
among the best the band has ever penned. For instance,"Sunset"
has a great "Sunday evening cruising down the strip" 80's
feel to it. As a whole the disk has a nice 80's feel to
it, and in good taste mind you, not over done with the
keyboards. "Blow it Away" is just plain amazing
from start to finish. Every instrument along with the
vocals sound damn near perfect. "Money Money",
another stand out, has a great sonic approach with the
guitars that really flows well. Wayne's rhythmic vocals
blend in really well. Another favorite "Face
Your Fun" the title track has such an
infectious melody and chorus that I can't get enough of.
I like how the guitars bring the song to a close. I have
to say every song flows really well right into the next
one.
This is a near perfect record. I
would say perfect, but I don't really think that perfect
records exist. The boys are going to have a tough time
topping this effort. But I've also said that before about
their records, so that shows what I know and also how
good these guys are. Do yourself a favor and buy this
album or any album you come across that has the name
Lassie Foundation on it.
