DOWNHERE, FUSEBOX, JONAH 33 AND PIVITPLEX WILL PLAY FOR FOOD

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - As the fall stretch of the Will Play for Food national tour draws near, Christian artists downhere, Fusebox, Jonah33 and Jadon Lavik are primed to jump-start audiences to break out of their comfort zones and serve the poor. The tour encourages fans to reject apathy, cynicism and materialism, and to help people who suffer from hunger, poverty and disease.

Putting faith into action is the driving idea behind the Will Play for Food Tour. Jonah33, Fusebox, downhere and Jadon Lavik hope to inspire concertgoers to get involved in the world around them and sacrifice some luxuries as an expression of their love for the poor. Audiences will be invited to give to, go to and serve the poor through Food for the Hungry—either by sponsoring a child, going on a short-term mission trip or serving as a volunteer.

Leading by example, the bands, each known for thought-provoking, challenging lyrics, will forego hotels and restaurants to stay with host families. Frontman for Jonah 33 Vince Lichlyter says he hopes their example will have a “special effect” on the “kids who want to be like the bands they see.” His music sets an example of its own. Jonah 33’s hit song, “Faith Like That,” which has had a healthy stay at or near the top of Air1 Radio’s charts for months, challenges listeners to tear off “their earthly crowns”; their latest single, “Working Man's Hands,” strikes a similar chord. Lichlyter, who grew up in the midst of Seattle’s grunge scene, a life saturated with “drugs, violence and sex,” aims to rescue others from the destruction of selfishness. Having walked the road of the prodigal son, Lichlyter focuses his lyrics on the death of self, a perfect fit for the tour’s message to exemplify Christ by deed as much as by word.

The challenge to selfishness involves breaking through the apathy and “comatose” lifestyle adopted by many, including Christians, in today’s generation, says downhere’s Marc Martel. The band, recognized for the introspection that defines its artistry and spirituality, won a Dove Award for Modern Rock Recorded Song of the Year for the “Breaking Me Down” from the album So Much for Substitutes. The album has also received a Juno Award nomination for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year from the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Downhere hopes to motivate Will Play for Food audiences to renew what they felt when Christ first removed “the scales that blinded,” a moment evoked in the track “Last Night’s Dream.” The song reminds listeners that “we have not reached Home” and prompts them to say, “Here I am for your sending.”  “Everyone has needs, but Food for the Hungry is something that people can grasp onto as far as a practical way to step outside of yourself, take a risk, and give,” Martel says.

The hope-filled, funky brand of praise music by modern worship band Fusebox aims to touch spirits and spur audiences to take that risk. “Once Again,” the title song from Fusebox’s second effort, leapt to the No. 2 spot on K-Love’s Top Songs in July and is currently gaining ground on Christian music charts. It meditates in awe over Christ’s mercy and willingness to lower Himself to the point of death. The band’s invigorating testimony to the sufficiency of God’s power and grace is a reminder that He makes all things possible, including enabling the faithful to follow in His steps of love to reach out and help others.

Food for the Hungry, a Christian international charity, is devoted to helping people throughout the world overcome physical and spiritual hunger. The organization helps impoverished people secure clean sources of water, teaches them various agricultural techniques, and promotes community development by providing small business loans. Air1 Radio will send one of its listeners to Guatemala in September, along with members of downhere, Jonah33, Fusebox, and Pivitplex, to share in Food for the Hungry’s work with the poor.

Artist lineups on the Will Play for Food Tour will vary by city. To find out about upcoming concert dates,

JARS OF CLAY TO PROMOTE HIV/AIDS HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS OVERSEAS

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - Jars of Clay is taking their music and message to Africa and Europe the first part of August through a variety of concerts and media appearances. The band will not only perform in South Africa, Sweden and the Netherlands, they also will use the trip to promote and educate the international audiences about "Blood:Water Mission," their non-profit organization that assists with the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa.

The band's first stop is South Africa, where they will perform concerts in Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban. While there band members also got a taste of reality television as they appeared live on the Aug. 3 episode of "Project Fame." Described as a cross between "Big Brother" and "American Idol," the show caught the band hanging out and jamming with ardent fan Jonathan Ross and other members of the cast. In addition, South African entertainment television channel eTV followed the band as they toured the Living Hope Community projects, a non-profit organization dedicated to confronting the effect the HIV/AIDS pandemic is having on Cape Town, one of the country's largest cities and its legislative capital. The eTV package is scheduled to air on Aug. 5th.

“We in South Africa are so excited that a band of the stature of Jars of Clay are willing to contribute their time and skills to the huge humanitarian crisis of AIDS in Africa,” said Nurden Cross, Managing Director and General Manager of Sarepta Music, Provident Music Group’s South African distribution partner. “Jars’ tour is an historic first for international Christian music artists and will go a long way towards raising the profile of their music and message.” Added Dan Haseltine, Jars of Clay lead singer, "It’s a great privilege to return to South Africa. Rarely has our passion for loving people in the midst of injustice and suffering connected so well with our love for playing music. We will get a chance to do both, and my hope is that we will return to the U.S. with a greater sense of urgency in our work to connect the people of America to the suffering people of Africa.”

After South Africa, the band will travel to Europe to take part in two of the region's largest Christian music festivals. On Aug. 13th they will perform at Sweden's Frizon Festival and on August 15th the band will be at the Netherlands' Flevo Festival. Both festivals attract more than 10,000 fans to three days of music and speakers, and serve as important launching pads for American artists to the European markets. Band members are also planning to use the European leg as a vision trip for their "Blood:Water Mission" directive. While on their most recent American tour, Jars of Clay held symposiums on college campuses in select markets on the tour to give college students and a greater understanding of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa and other third world countries. Helping to support the symposiums are GSAC (Global Student AIDS Campaign), World Vision, African Leadership, DATA (Debt, AIDS and Trade for Africa) and Essential Records.  -- ©2004 CCAUTHORITY.COM BREAKING NEWS
