Ok, so I'm here with Scott from Burlap to
Cashmere. So tell me a little bit about the band for
someone who wouldn't know
Um the band is a big mess of six people's crazy,
weird influences. Everything from the Gypsy Kings to
the Beatles to Pink Floyd to Sting to Tito Puente
Pretty eclectic
Yeah
So how did you guys come together?
The two lead guys, Steve and Johnny are cousins, so
they grew up together. And then Mike and Teddy and
Robby and Johnny all grew up together and our manger
as well, they all grew up together in Brooklyn and I
met them just randomly.
It doesn't seem like there is a whole lot of
Christian bands out of Brooklyn.
No.well there's a lot of gospel but in terms of
like rock, really no.
So how is it coming out of the microcosm of New
York to the United states as a whole? In a different
market such as from Brooklyn to Bartlesville?
Very well. We did mostly gigs in Manhattan. For
most people that is the most intimidating thing, to go
from Middle America and go play a show in Manhattan.
So we're like going the other way. That's where we
came from, that pressure and really intense and
competitive environment. So for us it's like easy,
it's really nice, people are into it and people
haven't been listing to twenty great bands because not
that many bands come through town. It's been fun.
So how has that been ministry wise? I mean I
don't know what you guys are like every night. Back
home vs. Middle America?
Umm we don't do anything differently wherever we
play. If we do a quote unquote "Christian"
show or a quote unquote "mainstream" show we
do the what you saw tonight, that is what we do.
For a band that fits into both categories so
readily how does it feel to be so successful in the
Christian scene?
It feels good! (laughs)Yes it's nice to have people
who enjoy the music. We don't differentiate between
the Christian and non-Christian community. Because if
someone is going to listen to us and be effected by us
it is really irrelevant to where they are coming from.
So do you see that as a goal? You mentioned
people being effected by you.
I wouldn't see it as a goal. I see it as a happy
by-product. We have never sat down and said "how
can we affect people" we said "how can we
make good music". Affecting people is just a
by-product of making good music.
So how would you say that the Lord has blessed
the band?
I would say with the success we are having. It is
totally not us. I'm really surprised that we are still
together with all that we have been through. And we
have been together for four years and to see all the
struggle we have gone through and we are still all
original members. I mean we have lost one guy um but
to last for four years and we really haven't seen any
success until now so this is really new. It's just
perseverance that's really been a blessing
What is the most embarrassing thing that has
happened to you guys on stage.
Wow we used to embarrass ourselves a lot because we
weren't very good live. So we used to have bad live
shows. So when that happened we would all be really
depressed. I mean guitars breaking and people getting
sick on stage. But recently there hasn't been much
embarrassment it has all been good.
Picture that there is a kid that just stumbled
onto this webpage, unsaved, what would you say to
them?
Uhh if you are not looking start looking, if you
are looking keep looking, and if you stop looking
because you think you have found answers, keep looking
because the answers only get deeper.
So what is next?
Oklahoma City! (laughs)We're just going to keep
playing and whatever happens, happens.
I try to keep these short so thanks.
Thanks
