Alyssa Johnston:
How did you first get involved in the music industry?
Wayne Everett: I
went to a show and offered my drumming services to the opening band.
AJ: What
is your role in the Lassie Foundation?
Wayne: Singer and
Love Technician.
AJ: Who
influences you the most vocally?
Wayne: Many
people...people like Toni Halliday of Curve, Brian Wilson, and that one
guy in N'Sync.
AJ: What
are your hopes for the Lassie Foundation's future?
Wayne: I'd like to
see our band flourish in every sense of the word.
AJ:
What direction do you think the band is heading in musically, or
which way would you like to be heading?
Wayne: Recently our
songwriting has been extremely collaborative. One person will come in with
an unfinished idea, and everyone throws a color on it. On the other hand,
some of the songs start as one person's vision, and the others contribute
in a less major way. Either way, I think that the process is good in that
it's democratic, and when you really trust
each other musically, then there are no
egos that get crushed. And everyone likes the song!
AJ: How
do the new songs LF is working on compare to songs on previous albums?
Wayne: The newer
numbers are a bit less noisy, more clean. I think it's much more daring to
strip off all of the fireworks and let the song be nude. Not that I'm
against fireworks at all--we all love to light the place up.
AJ:
What is your favorite Lassie Foundation song?
Wayne: All the
hits--and the others, too.
AJ:
What do you do outside of music?
Wayne: Talk about
music and listen to music and substitute teach high schoolers.
AJ:
You and Eric have worked together for a long time, what has kept
you guys together making music?
Wayne: This relates to
what I said earlier, about trust, about having people around you who are
creative and push you to different places within yourself. And he's cool.
AJ:
What are some of your all time favorite bands or albums?
Wayne: This could take
days to figure out, so here's a few off of the top of my head: Sex Pistols
Never Mind..., Pretenders 1st, Big Star's 1st, Verve's Storm in Heaven,
anything by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, MBV, Girls Against Boys Venus Lux, U2
Unforgettable Fire + previous, Yo La Tengo Electro-Pura, I'm forgetting
others....
