Slow Coming Day

Slow Coming Day was an emo quartet from Huntington Beach, CA, whose principals included Orion Walsh (vocals/guitar), Brad Smith (guitar), Dave Stoots (bass), and Jason Sheets (drums).  "Slow Coming Day began in the spring of 2001 as a side-project to another band that I was in at the time. We recorded our first demo only four months after we formed. After many of these first songs were accepted onto various music compilations like the Emo Diaries, I saw that the band had potential and quit my other band to do Slow Coming Day full-time. We went back into the studio again in early 2002 to record two more tracks, which combined with the demo songs from before, became what is known as the "A Part of Me Died" EP. We released the EP independently in March of 2002 and sold all 1,500 copies that were pressed. Then in September of 2002, with a new drummer and bass player, we signed to Tooth & Nail Records, based out of Seattle, Washington. We then recorded our first full-length album entitled, "Farewell to the Familiar" in November of 2002 with producer Ed Rose and it was released in stores on April 22nd, 2003. After our first few tours in support of our album our drummer and bassist left the band to pursue other things. Despite member changes, Brad and I, the original and founding members of the band, will continue to play music and put out records no matter what the circumstance." - Orion Walsh

                              Album Review

Okay today must be emo day or something…but then again this is only the second cd I’ve heard for reviewing today…. Tooth & Nail is taking a great new approach when it comes to bands, making me so very happy. This is Slow Day Coming’s newest release “Farewell to the Familiar,” I love this cd. Ha! It’s a great day for emo artist out there; they’re getting good reviews, from the strict cd reviewer Atari.

The music is more drums; with harmony it’s more melodic. The bass line is used more on this cd along with the drums and keyboards. The music sounds amazingly beautiful along with the leads voice. So sad I never heard this cd until months later. The sound is so much like Sunny Day Real Estate’s “Killed By An Angel.”

The rhythmic sound used with the guitar on ”Captivated” so beautifully done. Their talent with just the music alone is so breath taking and so filled with compassion.

The lyrics are emotionally written with the unseeming sound of meaning, the lead sings as though he’s filled with broken thoughts. Left feeling alone and unknown, his lyrics are with compassion, and a search for something more and meaning. Heard in such lyrics as a “tear drop falling but then wiped away,” and “Don’t wait, don’t what around,” lyrics used in “In Silence.” He sings with such heart filled passion and emotions making this cd so amazing, and depth.

This band is so breath taking with talent, and for a debut they’re clearly made themselves heard. If this is debut, I’m in anticipation to hear their next cd.
