Album Reviews
Well well. The new Hopesfall. After ‘Hopesfall’and ‘Satellite Years’ , this is their third album. I was curious about this album, `cause I always thought Hopesfall was a band with a large potential. Hardcore elements mixed with an indie feel with riffs that would be appropriate on a At The Drive-In album. This CD is different. Let me put it this way: the main comparison with the
last records is that their artwork is still great. Musically, they decided
to say hardcore goodbye and switch more to the postcore-side. After one or
two listenings you won’t like this record and it’s easy to state your
opinion how crappy this album is. But what I felt in the beginning was
right: this album has to grow and grow and if it’s a few times in your
player, you will listen to this record over and over again. Hopesfall maybe did a step back, but also two steps forward. Now the fans have to accept they went this way, but if you do, you get a good CD for it in trade. ~ Friso
This is a melodic rock record. Its full of big riffs and catchy choruses and it is pretty good stuff if you're a fan of melodic music. Hopesfall is not a band that would let their songwriting chops go to waste, so you know that you can expect something good, even if it is a different style. You can tell by listening to this album that Hopesfall puts forth a lot of time and effort into their songwriting. This wasn't something that was crafted in a weekend. It sounds like it took months with each detail getting equal attention. I think that, the thought of the effort they put into this album, is my favorite aspect of A Types. I think fans of Jupiter era Cave In will appreciate this album. I also think that it may take some of their old fans awhile to get used to, but they will also appreciate it months from now. ~ RF |
