Chad Olson: I actually met
you back in 1998 while you were on tour with Travail and 44
Evergiven. I worked at HM Magazine, and you guys
stayed at Editor Doug Van Pelt’s house for a couple of days.
So…
Christian: Really? I remember that.
Simon: 44 Evergiven wasn’t actually on that tour; they
just played some shows with us.
CO: Okay. How did the deal with Elektra come about,
and how does the 3 Points Records deal work? How involved
with Blindside is P.O.D.? Who actually signed you, P.O.D.
or Elektra?
Simon: Elektra actually signed us. We met P.O.D. on
that tour you were talking about in 1998, and we became
good friends. The 3 Points Records thing is more just a
chance for P.O.D. to talk about us and give us some
attention. It’s worked really well. P.O.D. isn’t really
involved. They just help us out some.
CO: How many albums do you have to give to your label?
Simon: I don’t know. We don’t really talk about that.
That’s business, and we don’t want to say.
CO: When did Tim Cook start being your manager?
Simon: Again, we don’t really talk about that.
CO: Alright. P.O.D., Blindside, and Project 86 were
all on major labels with Tim Cook managing all of you at
one time, yet P.O.D. and Blindside are the only ones
who’ve seen success on your major labels. Is that just
the luck of the draw, or what would you attribute that
to?
Christian: That’s just…
Simon: That’s just how things go.
Christian: I don’t know really.
CO: I know it can be hard, especially in
Christian-oriented bands because it can be more of a
struggle, but how have you managed to keep the same
members for so long?
Marcus: No one else wants to play with us. [Laughter]
CO: [Laughter]
Tomas: [Laughter] Yeah! No, I think we just get along
well and understand each other.
Christian: This is what we all want to do.
Simon: Yeah.
CO: Do you have residences in Sweden and the U.S.?
Christian: No. We just live in Sweden.
CO: This one’s for Christian. In the lyric sheet in
the album, sometimes the word “you” is capitalized. In
those instances, are you speaking about Christ?
Christian: Yes.
CO: Tell me about “Shekina.” Is the female vocal part
a native Swedish sort of thing or something?
Christian: Yeah. It’s something that cow herders call
over the mountains.
Simon: Yeah, it’s a very beautiful sound.
CO: And what does it mean in English?
Christian: Nothing.
CO: It doesn’t mean anything? It’s just something they
say?
Simon: Yeah. It’s just more of a sound.
Christian: It’s not really words.
CO: Oh, okay. Tell me about having Billy Corgan of The
Smashing Pumpkins play on “Hooray, It’s L.A.” How did
that come about?
Simon: We were just talking about having someone play
on a song with us or something, and he was into it.
CO: Did you show him the song and it went from there?
Simon: Yeah, but he did his own thing. I didn’t tell
him what to play; he just did it.
CO: Cool. How do you feel about the “Christian band
versus Christians in a band” debate, and do you feel the
Christian market place serves a purpose?
Christian: You mean as far as bands playing in
churches?
CO: Well, that, too. But how do you feel about having
Christian bookstores that sell Christian music, and just
the general Christian market… Do you feel it serves a
purpose?
Christian. Definitely. I have no problem with bands
who play churches. I think being there for Christians is
a good thing. So, yeah, I think it has a point.
CO: In your liner notes on the new album, you thank
the people from Winter Park, Florida several times?
What’s significant about that city and its people?
Blindside: [Laughter]
Tomas: Well, the Squad Five-O guys live there, and so
do the guys in a band called The Kicks. When we’re on
tour and stuff, we like to hang out there. We’ve gotten
to know some of the people there, and it’s a fun place.
CO: Any good music you guys have heard recently, or
what are you listening to these days?
Simon: Johnny Cash.
Marcus: Some techno stuff.
CO: How’s the tour going so far?
Christian: Real good.
Simon: Fun shows.
CO: Have the shows been packed out?
Marcus: No.
CO: Really?! Wow.
Simon: No, not packed out.
CO: How was Cornerstone Florida?
Christian: Hot! [Laughter]
CO: It always is! Do you have any plans for the next
record yet?
Simon: Not really.
CO: What are your plans after this tour? What does the
rest of the year hold for you guys?
Simon: We’re going to be doing a headline tour later
on.
CO: Will it be places this size or…?
Christian: Smaller.
CO: Okay. Well, do any of you have any closing
comments?
Simon: No. Check out our website to see what we’re
doing.
Christian: Take it easy.
Marcus: Rock!
Tomas: Read your Bible.
Aaron: Hello everybody. Thanks you for reading and
listening.
